How We Got Here

Tom, and I retired and moved back to Tennessee. We sold our business and home so we could spend more time with our 3 wonderful children, their great spouses and our five perfect grand children (no really, they are all perfect!). One of the reasons I began Sunny Days was to share some of the many projects, decorating ideas and events that we always have going on.

Reluctant Caregiver

For several years I was a caregiver for my mom. Being a caregiver can be rewarding but it’s also very difficult. Mom passed away a year ago February, she was 90. It’s still so sad. My mother was a big part of my journey. She was the most artistic, creative person I’ve ever known.

A few years before Mom died, Tom was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. Probably the most difficult day of our lives. It is a terrible disease for the person and their family. Some days are better than others so we just do the best we can.

Experience

I was a decorative painter for many years, working with a few decorators in the Memphis area. Before that I worked as a stencil designer and taught classes in Delaware and Pennsylvania. I learned to sew from my mother and started out making Barbie clothes. I have always enjoyed being creative. There is nothing more satisfying than creating something with your own hands that comes out perfect, or at least, how you pictured it.

I started Susan’s Sunny Days to share some of my ideas and projects. I hope you get some inspiration  from my posts.

Removing a wall! This was a fun one.

I want to share some of the projects we have done like removing a wall in our home, or some outdoor projects like building a potting bench and eventually paving the area so it will be my open air She Shed. Yes, Susan will have a She Shed.

I loved how this turned out!

So thank you for visiting Sunny Days. I hope to see you again soon. I would enjoy hearing from you!
