Hello friends. It’s been awhile. My life got a little complicated, taking care of my mother and husband and I finally realized that I could use some help. I sold our business, Mom’s house and our house then headed to Tennessee. Why would we leave Tampa for Tennessee, you ask? Well, we loved Tampa, but Tampa did not have the most important thing to us, our family. In Tennessee we have our 3 children, their spouses and our amazing 5 grandchildren so, here we are.
We landed in Cordova, Tennessee. Funny story, we did not actually see our home until a week after closing. Our family visited properties for us and in the end our daughter found one that everyone liked. We saw it on Facetime when Brianna toured it, which did not give us a true feel for the home but, we were so overwhelmed, we went with it. It wasn’t an ideal situation but luckily we loved our new home when we finally got to see it.
Sadly my mother passed away a year ago February. She was a force of nature. Anyone that met her would agree. I couldn’t keep up with her, no one could.
She was 90 but I felt like we needed more time. Sometimes I will see something I know she would love and I want to share. The first time that happened, after she was gone, my rose bush was full of blooms. Mom loved roses.
I was tasked with handling everything, including selling her house and handling her estate. Luckily I did have some help from family. It made me realize how important it is to have everything in place to make it easier on your family. I have found myself getting rid of things that used to seem important but, not so much any more.
Anyway, here we are in a home that was built on a golf course that is no longer active. I highly recommend it. We have a small yard but, a huge beautiful view. Having been in a home with a bigger yard and a privacy fence, we weren’t sure how we would adjust.
One of the first things we did was to have a fence installed. We had 2 dogs when we moved here so, that was a priority. It had to be a low fence with open slats per HOA rules. We don’t miss the privacy fence at all. It is wide open in the back and we love the wildlife we often see and the lovely view.
The next issue I had to handle was the neighbors being so close on each side. I handled that with some creative window treatments. I love the sunlight that comes into this house and I didn’t want to block that. Also, I didn’t want to see into their windows when I was doing dishes or eating in the breakfast nook and I absolutely didn’t want them seeing me in my pjs.
This was the view from my kitchen window. Lovely, right? I was not okay.
The window treatment before was lovely but, not me. And I couldn’t open the blinds without seeing…
Problem solved!
Our kitchen nook. the window treatments are lovely but not out style and we cant open the blinds
Completely different but we love it. Soft privacy is perfect for us.
There are so many projects I have done and plan to do to make this home fit our personalities’. I will be sharing those projects as I go along. Seasonal and holiday decorating is fun especially when we have grandchildren to enjoy it. The favorite holiday in this home is Christmas. Is it too early to get started? I’m actually transitioning from summer to fall decor at the moment. It doesn’t help that it’s still almost 100 degrees here.
Thank you for joining me today. I know this is not my typical post but, I wanted you to know what’s been going on with us. Wishing you health, happiness and lots of Sunny Days!
