Marble is Always Classic
Don’t you just love the classic look of marble? I have the old school dark granite kitchen counters that I really like but I would love the marble look quartz counters. To brighten my counters up and get my marble fix, I have some marble pieces in my kitchen. The best places I have found for marble at a reasonable price are Home Goods, Marshall’s and TJMax. They have so many options and sometimes you can find something you are looking for on clearance. This brings me to this post.
One of my favorite places to shop at is Home Goods. They have so many beautiful items that are Pottery Barn worthy at Home Goods prices. Anyway, I was visiting Florida and decided to check out a Tampa Home Goods.
You never know what you will find but, on this visit, I lucked out. I found a beautiful marble slab that was on clearance for $8.00. WHAT! And it was unique, so I loved it.
Once I got it home it sat on my kitchen counter for several days until it spoke to me. I knew what I wanted to do and where it was going to land.
I needed feet on my piece to make it a riser and I wanted to use it by my coffee maker. Hobby Lobby has so many craft pieces so I headed there. First I checked their knobs. They really have an amazing assortment. Unfortunately I didn’t see anything that I liked. Next up I looked at their wood bits and pieces. I found candleholders and large beads. In the end the candleholders won.
Everything was falling into place, I put the feet under my piece of marble, sat it in place and waited for inspiration on the color, should paint them, or keep them natural?
In the end I chose to stain them with Minwax PolyShade Expresso and I was thrilled. It looked great with my slab and took it up a level. Plus, espresso in a coffee bar? How perfect is that?
After staining the 4 feet I glued them under my marble with E6000. Once it set up I flipped it over to dry.
And there you have it. A beautiful way to display my mother’s milk glass sugar and creamer. The marble piece was $8.00 and I think the wood feet were $2.50 on sale. I loved how this easy project turned out and I couldn’t beat the price.
Since doing this project, I have seen so many risers using these same feet. Most are a painted piece of wood and they are lovely. If you are up to it, look for something interesting for the top and do your own. It’s fun, easy and very satisfying.
