Let’s Get Started!

Looking for some fun and easy projects for while you are stuck at home? All you need is chalkboard paint, a brush and a little imagination. The projects below are just the beginning!

Adorable Spice Containers!

Cute containers are everywhere! I found these in the office section at the Dollar Tree (before quarantine), but there are some great ones online as well.

Boring Dollar Tree Containers to Cute Spice Containers

I love the spice mixes at The Spice and Tea Exchange of Tarpon Springs, but those plastic bags are not very user friendly. I’ve seen containers similar to mine at several stores , but with a much higher price. And bonus! With the chalk paint, you can keep your spices organized and accessible.

I liked the idea of a little window to see if my supply is low!

For this simple project, you need blue painter’s tape, a paint brush, white chalk, chalk marker and your chalk board paint. I prefer classic black , but chalk board paint can be tinted to a variety of colors.

Chalk treatment!

Easy fix to prevent the ghosts!

Two coats are all you need for great coverage. After it is completely dry,rub the white chalk all over the surface and wipe off. This extra step only takes a few minutes and it will keep the surface from showing “ghost letters” when you erase.

Perfect size for my mixed spices!

Look at these little cuties! Exactly what I needed, and at two for a dollar, you can’t beat the price!

Cute and easy access!

I’l loving these things! Can’t wait to buy some more!

Keep Track of Your Champagne Glasses!

Here’s another great Dollar Tree find from a few years ago. I was planning a birthday brunch for our daughter Brianna, and found these wonderful champagne glasses for the mimosas. With so many people coming, I needed a way for everyone to keep track of their glasses. Chalk paint! This time I used spray chalk paint so there’d be no brush marks on the glass. Don’t you love how these came out?

Quick and easy way to transform Dollar Tree champagne glasses to fun party glasses.

Supplies for this project are spray chalk board paint in classic black, blue painter’s tape, chalk and chalk markers. Also, I used a plastic grocery bag for each glass to stop over-spray.

Make sure your glass is completely clean before you start. Put the bag over the glass and tape it where you don’t want paint to show up. There are so many variations you can try! You can paint just the base, the entire stem or whatever you can imagine.  I preferred just having the base painted so I taped the bag at the stem. I  prepared each glass with the bag and lined them up, then carefully sprayed a couple of coats on each glass. Once completely dry, I removed the bags and treated each base with chalk and wiped clean.

They were a big hit at the party and washed up nicely afterwards, too! Supposedly,  you can wash them in the dishwasher but I have always hand washed these and they are still perfect.

Keep some chalk markers handy!

This technique works great for jars, canisters, anything you can imagine! Just make sure to carefully tape off the area you do not want painted.

Fun Way to Organize Your Life!

Plain door transformed to command center!

Looking for a fun area to organize your life during this, ah, downtime? I painted a door in the kitchen with chalk board paint, but you could just as easily tape off an area on a wall. The bottom section is wonderful for our young grandchildren to doodle when I’m working in the kitchen. The basket holds chalk and an eraser. The can holds dry erase markers, pens for the calendar and more chalk. After two coats of paint and leaving it to dry completely, I gave it the chalk treatment as before. Now I have a central location to keep up with my busy family, and entertain the grands! Win-Win!

Label those Baskets!

This organizer was a lucky find. So adorable and functional!

I love this organizer but wanted to label the baskets. A little chalk paint was all it took. Now what else can I paint?

Stay safe! We will all get through this, maybe with a few more projects under our belt!
